Woman at Point Zero, 100 Years of Solitude, Blindness, Hamlet, Chaucer, War is a Force that Gives Us Meaning, the E&M book by Jackson, the Glass Menagerie, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, the entire intro series by Landau and Lifshitz, Lolita, To Kill a Mockingbird, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, a Tale of Two Cities, Master Harold and the Boys, Kindred, Don Quijote, Jane Eyre, Origin of the Species, Chanson de Roland, Madame Bovary, Dangerous Liaisons, Les Miserables, Wuthering Heights, Jane Austen, Beowulf, Kafka (the trial, and metamorphosis), Hunger, In Search of Lost Time, Frankenstein, Grimm Brothers Fairy Tales, 1001 Arabian Nights, I Accuse (Emilie Zola), Multatuli (Max Havelaar), Dune, Tolkein's LotR series, Farenheit 451, The Lovely Bones, Life of Pi, The Da Vinci Code, Eragon, Catch 22, Catcher in the Rye, Poisonwood Bible, Handmaid's Tale, Paradise Lost, Ender's Game, Beloved, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, the Sparrow, the His Dark Materials series, ... Above is the list of 'things college students must read before saying they're "educated"... or rather the recommended list! not necessarily that in actuality. I am making progress on these and hope to make the list longer. so email me your suggestions (or just post em as comments, if you don't know my email) uh, yeah busy weekend. Haven't done anything yet. Feel like a loser. Less than one week left as a teenager. Makes me wonder what childhood really is; what adulthood really is. When do we grow up? Is maturity this feeling of internal depression that leaves me not smiling all the time? Or is childhood the sense of joy that used to fill me at every instant--joy through personal choice? Is adulthood coming to terms with one's inability to (apparently) do anything? Is childhood the belief in the thought that one person alone could stand forth and change the world if they tried hard enough? Does losing one's naivete mean that one becomes more realistic? or only less hopeful? What, after all, is the point of all this? Time passes, and all we do is do things. We make the days pass, we go to class and learn or we work, trying to improve our lives and the lives of others, but without really trying. Without passion, without care. An adult job never seems to be fun (and so frequently it doesn't seem to actually do something for other people). Yet it is supposed to be a job more complete and whole than the jobs pursued in younger years. What, then, makes it an 'adult's' job? The lack of fun? the lack of accomplishment? Are all jobs like this? or does each job secretly have a component through which a passionate worker could enjoy themselves and help others and improve themselves and the world--an area by which the pursuits of childhood (happiness, success, a feeling of completion and hope, motivation) can be explored in later years? Blah. I can't even type straight. I should do some homework. |

***Tbook1 (Time and Chaos, needs a new name, needs to be edited) ***Book of Sun (Just needs to be edited. Tis a Nano novel) ***Book of Whispers part 1 (Does not jive at all with part 2; needs to be rewritten to fit and to have less suckage) ***Book of Whispers part 2 (Needs some rehaul editing, needs some loose ends tied up, needs to fit) ***Book of Whispers part 3 (Needs to be finished... then needs to die o.o Not sure if I need a third part in the series) ***Dium's Story (Needs a point, progress, anything... needs to be integrated into Tbook1, since that is what it is a part of, mainly) ***Trio Story with Jackie and Louise (Maybe we should get together and work on this, guys) ***Demon Story (This is working out pretty good so far. I like the plot, it's a bit convoluted, and the characters are interesting) ***New Witch Story (It's only 30 pages long, dang) ***Dragon's Voices (This has SO much potential! wee!) | ![]() |
