Why can't I be in charge without being a bossy bitch? Why can't I be loud without being obnoxious and rude? Why can't I have random fun without being out of control? Why can't I be sexual without being a slut and a whore? Why can't I be knowledgeable without being an insufferable know-it-all? Why can't I be curious without being a no-good nosey busybody? Why can't I lack knowledge without being an idiot with no potential? WHY? Why did all this come about? Where do I go, if I have to dance around all these opinions? How can I be me if I can't be these things that are me without being assigned these values that aren't me? |

I have a news flash- WOMEN ARE OPPRESSED.
One of the ways in which women are a) oppressed and b) convinced to become complicit in their own and other women's oppression is through exactly what you wrote in this post. Any time a woman is at all assertive, in control, or empowered to make decisions and actions on her own behalf, she is cast in a negative light. You'll notice that it's a given that men will be in charge, loud, fun, sexual, intelligent, and curious without being bossy, rude, slutty, insufferable, nosy, or stupid.
You're an awesome person. You should BE YOU. It's not so bad to be any of those things, especially when the alternative is to give up on your life plans or your self-identity. I think it's important to stop and ask yourself whether you WANT to feel bad or guilty for being assertive, intelligent, and boisterous.
Women who are empowered are amazing people, as are women and men who respect empowered women. So try to surround yourself with awesome people and explain in reasonable terms to anyone who criticises you that they are, in fact, wrong to belittle you for being awesome, and that lots of smart and interesting people will back you up on that (like me).
I fuckin respect you for going into physics. You're a smart cookie and you amaze me. I have an interesting article you should read, I'll see if I can find it online somewhere and email it to you.
