Wow! it's been a hell of a long two and a half weeks since classes ended. I've read 9 books, been to my first convention, and been wretchedly ill. Delightful!

Wiscon was AMAZING. So many good panels. So many awesome people. So damned many new authors and books to read. My favorite panels were the "Lightning Write" and the "Here be Dragons" panels. I promised to type up the Lightning Write stories but I've spent a week being sick so forgive the delay. They will be here soon. It was very productive and would be amusing to do again--basically you come up with a prompt, write for 4 minutes, and pass the story on in a circle, and try to keep continuity. The Dragon panel focused mainly on discussion with (Pat Rothfuss?) and two girls whose names I've forgotten (will have to look them up once I find all my notes) who are all but majoring in fantasy studies. We talked about dragons at different time periods, dragons in different cultures, and ended with a few small group discussions. I got a list of names and emails for more dragon-based books, which I am looking forward to.

I also got to meet Ellen Kushner and Laurie Marks and Ilona Andrews, and heard all three of them read from their texts--their books are rather high on the "to acquire" list now. I think I want to be Ellen Kushner when I grow up (laughter). She seems to be this amazing wiry woman who reminds me of at least three physicists and has written excellent books involving SWORDS. Squee!

I also went to a panel on the idea of binary, which focused mainly on gender and race binary and did not ... quite.... appear to achieve any goal it might have fought for (maybe that's just my opinion, but oh well). It was a hot topic and once everyone started discussing it it was a muddle within minutes. I was hoping to look for ways to avoid binaries in writing and did come up with writing a novel in which I have no idea which of two characters is the villain and which is the hero. That would be ... fun!

other things accomplished: dressed up as a pirate and met a slew of cool livejournal people. Finally got to have the "who would you be opposite your sexual orientation for from TV/movie/etc?" conversation. started and kind've killed mid-write no less than six poems. Saw some really awesome tattoos. Had my palm read and the tarot cards done. And acquired ten books (.... five more than I intended. BUT! most of them were only a dollar!). Hung out with Jackie and Gretchen, whom it was good to see again. Had a great conversation about race in movies and books at Hawks. Ate at Himal Chuli, where I've never before eaten.

Then, on Wednesday, I got sick. I will not bother you with details except I pretty much spent three days sleeping and woke up to discover an ear infection. Now I'm even more part-deaf! yay!

Other things of interest: Pathways Scholars stuff started, looks cool, small group. Went in to work at the lab today and had lunch with lab-friends, most amusing, tripped on a ledge and spilled water on myself. Had my head buzz-cut (and I love it!).

buzz-cut hair!! That's awesome. It was great to see you, too, I'm glad you had fun at WisCon. I, too, think Ellen Kushner is totally cool. I kind of have a writerly crush on her and Delia Sherman... also, did I tell you Pat Rothfuss gave me a ride home that night?? It's like I'm famous, except not. Hope you're recovering!

Stories I'm currently working on.

***Tbook1 (Time and Chaos, needs a new name, needs to be edited)

***Book of Sun (Just needs to be edited. Tis a Nano novel)

***Book of Whispers part 1 (Does not jive at all with part 2; needs to be rewritten to fit and to have less suckage)

***Book of Whispers part 2 (Needs some rehaul editing, needs some loose ends tied up, needs to fit)

***Book of Whispers part 3 (Needs to be finished... then needs to die o.o Not sure if I need a third part in the series)

***Dium's Story (Needs a point, progress, anything... needs to be integrated into Tbook1, since that is what it is a part of, mainly)

***Trio Story with Jackie and Louise (Maybe we should get together and work on this, guys)

***Demon Story (This is working out pretty good so far. I like the plot, it's a bit convoluted, and the characters are interesting)

***New Witch Story (It's only 30 pages long, dang)

***Dragon's Voices (This has SO much potential! wee!)
