The Topic of the Day is: Tuesday, July 31, 2007 | ![]() |

Been a pretty successful couple of days! The paper's rough, whole, patchy version of the second draft is done. It's 45 pages long and needs editing. I'm waiting to hear from my mentor as to whether or not I fail at writing history papers, or succeed. Either way, it's a huge relief to have so much of it done, all my thoughts in order, and a lot of references lined up. Parts I'm worried about: The Lit Review: this is probably the most evil section ever. I started reading a lot of stuff that I never finished and that I don't think had much, if any, relevance to my topic. As a result, I only ended up having two (possibly three) texts mentioned in my lit review. I'm very, very fearful that my mentor is going to read this and go "WHAT?!" and demand that I read 700 books in full and incorporate them. The problem is that a lot of my work with this paper has been theoretical. I've spent a lot of time poring over ideas in my head. and I really only read the two books. I didn't even get to skimming the others. So it's possible that very vaguely these other books have affected my opinion and my thoughts, but not likely The Analysis: do I go into enough detail? too much detail? do I make sense? are the conclusions I draw valid? The Conclusion: does this wrap things up in the way I want it to wrap things up? or does it also fail? other than that, the paper's pretty much done. I have until August 14th to turn in a final, final draft. So, good luck to me. Other things: Writing Critique Group today. I read a chapter of sasha_feather's story and a short story by Eric, and they were both really good and made me question my own commitment to writing. Worked at the lab today. Well... went to a meeting and listened to an informative talk by my physics prof. Yay! Got paid (joy!) Went to the doctor's (and discovered that frankly I suck. As a result I have eaten rice and vegetable soup and salad since yesterday. Gah. I hate restricting myself in food. But if I can lose a pound a week..... for about a year.... *laughs* oh well). Started reading Robin Hobb. So far, things are good. I dislike the disregard for women that shows up so prominently, at least in the beginning. Geekkon is up to 150 people. OMG. what if we hit 500? Where will we put them all? what will happen? I figured out this coming semester's schedule, and I even calculated in 2 hours of procrastination a day. Fwee!... omg I'm going to be doomed. Talked to Katie last night. Made me feel pretty good. We're going to try to do an August Nanowrimo, so let's see how that turns out. Hung out with Stefi before she left on her enormous music festival/camping trip (not QUITE woodstock, but still...)... I miss her already |

***Tbook1 (Time and Chaos, needs a new name, needs to be edited) ***Book of Sun (Just needs to be edited. Tis a Nano novel) ***Book of Whispers part 1 (Does not jive at all with part 2; needs to be rewritten to fit and to have less suckage) ***Book of Whispers part 2 (Needs some rehaul editing, needs some loose ends tied up, needs to fit) ***Book of Whispers part 3 (Needs to be finished... then needs to die o.o Not sure if I need a third part in the series) ***Dium's Story (Needs a point, progress, anything... needs to be integrated into Tbook1, since that is what it is a part of, mainly) ***Trio Story with Jackie and Louise (Maybe we should get together and work on this, guys) ***Demon Story (This is working out pretty good so far. I like the plot, it's a bit convoluted, and the characters are interesting) ***New Witch Story (It's only 30 pages long, dang) ***Dragon's Voices (This has SO much potential! wee!) | ![]() |
