I am thinking about working on a book of poetry that will be called "Poems about Women" or something like that. Mainly because 95% of the poems I write are focused around a woman or a girl or something like that. weiiiird. I am really enjoying my writing class AND it's easy. yay! Poem for this week (lyric) Assignment #2 (20 pts): Construct a 3-D Model of the Earth (due: 9/21/07) I. The girl recreates the earth in paper; births shapes: bone-white snow, the frayed curve of freeway under a blue sky, pine forests sweeping against the clouded sky Scissors carve continents, Craft the untidy shape of Europe's sticky forehead. She punches stars from silver film, blows a burst of dust, stinking of rust, into the black night Each star is sterile, glittering in the gutter of the sky Each star glows, each star breaths beneath the unformed sky II. Waves slap along the coast, each purple foam-crested finger like the ribcage of a bird, puncturing the uncertain membrane of the sky The sky bleeds at sunset The sky skims along the crests of the waves The sky holds the foam of the water in its mouth III. She brushes scraps away, freeing the unfinished fetus of her labor She builds two gray bulbs, egg-shaped and soft like ovaries, two fleshy eyes, two suns of clay She holds them, she turns them over and over, like two pebbles in her hand. |
